Laughter, they say, is the best medicine. If that is the case then the medicine is available online.
In this YouTube age, funny commercials are at anyone's fingertips. It started with funny shows in TV uploaded online. When the make-your-own-video phenomenon came in, many people have come up with their own videos. Then people start uploading on the web funny commercials from their countries.
What's so good about watching TV commercials online, is that users get familiarized with the culture, the cleverness and the humor of the people in different countries. Its uniqueness also stands out, or at least the idea is unique for people who live on the other side of the world.
Aside from entertaining online users, funny commercials in general are useful in everyday conversation. These can be aid to professional, motivational speakers. They will comment on funny commercials to their speaking engagements, to catch the viewers attention. Some would add it to break the ice. Most speakers would add it to be part of the content of their speeches.
Such commercials can also be used as illustration for Christian youth groups. An example of this is the biscuit commercial in the Philippines. The scenario: an old woman is asking for the only biscuit a guy has on a park bench. When the guy decided to give half of it, the old woman transformed to an angel who grants wishes. He asked for a sports car in return to the favor he granted. But since he only gave half of the biscuit, the angel rewarded him with jus the half of a sports car as well.
Yes, it is sarcastically funny. But it can serve as illustration on the matter of investing one's money in tithes and offering (in the Christian concept).
Funny commercials that are watch online might also misled others since commercials are made for a specific audience. Group A has different cultural belief, or different sense of humor, when compared to Group B. So, if someone watched a commercial from a certain country, the message might be misunderstood or the humor might not be appreciated.
An example of this is a commercial from Egypt for a famous international food chain. It shows a guy who will do anything for her girlfriend, like going with her when she shops and pushing her car when it breaks down. But as they went to the food chain and had the food at their table (fries and burgers), they'd do anything to have everything (food) for themselves. The song plays along with the video and shows a confusion of love: love for each other or love for burger and fries?
Wanting the fries for himself, the guy grabs the girl's arm when she was about to get fries. The girl kicks the guy's legs for she wants fries, too. Yet, the guy wins, eating the meal all by himself. It's funny to some viewers, but somehow, it would inject to other viewers that it's okay to hurt a woman ; when he was just trying to convey that the fries taste so good that he's even willing to lose the love of his life.
